Truecaller Introduces New AI Feature for Enhanced Protection Against Spam Calls

Truecaller has launched a new feature powered by artificial intelligence (AI) aimed at automatically blocking spam calls, providing improved security against potential scammers and spammers.

This new feature, exclusively accessible on the Android version of the Truecaller app, introduces a “Max” protection level specifically designed to block spam calls. However, it is offered as a premium feature accessible only to paying subscribers of the app. This addition comes shortly after Truecaller introduced AI-driven transcription and call recording features in India.

For Truecaller app users with premium subscriptions, the new feature can be found in the Settings section. Previously, this setting provided two options – Basic and Off.

Truecaller Introduces New AI Feature

The Basic mode automatically blocked calls from numbers reported as spammers by a large number of users. The Off mode, on the other hand, identified spam callers but didn’t block them. Now, a new tab labelled Max has been introduced, as confirmed by Gadgets 360.

When set to Max, it enables the app to automatically block top spam callers. However, users should be careful using this feature as it can also block calls from genuine businesses.

In an exclusive statement to TechCrunch, the VP of Search at Truecaller Kunal Dua revealed that the company has employed a diverse range of algorithms tested across various markets to pinpoint spam numbers.

Leveraging advanced AI technology, Truecaller has successfully integrated this functionality into its platform. Additionally, Dua highlighted Truecaller’s dedication to refining the feature based on user input, underlining the company’s commitment to continually improving user experience.

While the upcoming feature promises to strengthen protection against spam calls, users may experience the inadvertent blocking of legitimate calls due to its powerful filtering system. However, Truecaller reassures its user base that their feedback will play an important role in refining the feature over time.

Despite the anticipation surrounding this innovation, Truecaller has opted not to disclose the specifics of its spam call identification technique. While users can report suspicious calls, it remains unclear whether Truecaller employs supplementary techniques to identify spam numbers.

It’s worth noting that the AI-powered “Max” spam blocking feature will be exclusive to Android users. This is because iOS restrictions prohibit caller ID apps from autonomously blocking or tracking spam status or numbers. Additionally, this feature necessitates a subscription to Truecaller’s Premium plan.

As Truecaller continues to find innovative ways to block spam calls, users can expect further developments aimed at providing a seamless and protected communication experience.
