Japanese anime fiction shows are not only visually pleasing, they are equally engaging and Monster Musume is one of those shows that explain that analogy. Tatsuya Yoshihara, the main focal point behind the show, has managed to make it shine in the first two seasons.
For those who are new, Monster Musume is inspired by Okayado’s manga series of the same name, and the English version of this show is distributed by Seven Seas Entertainment. That said, with one successful season under its belt, the audience is now awaiting the third season.
We will discuss more about Monster Musume Season 2, its potential release date, and what you can expect in the future.
When is Monster Musume Season 2 Releasing?
There is some good news for you and some not-so-good news. Now, the good news is that the show’s creators have confirmed that Season 2 is happening and is currently in the works.
However, the bad news is that we don’t have any official information as to when it is happening. This means that there’s no way to know when the second season will be released.
There have been several factors contributing to the delays, starting with COVID-19 and then conflicts inside the production too. The first season premiered in 2015 and since then there have been no reports about the next season, which is quite disappointing.
Some rumors suggested that the show will most likely air in early 2023 but nothing so far. So, it is safe to assume that Season 2 isn’t happening in 2023 anymore. There’s no point fretting about the eventual release because we won’t know anything for sure unless the production or the show’s distributors give us hints about the release dates.
What is the Expected Plot of Monster Musume Season 2?
As we mentioned, Monster Musume is inspired by Okayado’s manga series. So, if you have read it, you likely know what’s coming up next.
According to rumors, the second season will focus on Kimihito and the kind of experiences she is bound to have with the Interspecies transfer project’s critters. Also, the second season will take us a bit more depth into learning about wildlife and people’s (liminal) harmonious cohabitation.
We will also find more of Kimihito and her sudden passion for working on the plantation, so that would be an interesting side of the show to unfold. We will also get to witness a variety of additional activities and traits like spore-releasing and trying-to-mill kind of situations, which is quite an unexpected addition.
The theme of exploring sexuality in the show is another aspect we will get to explore in the second season and probably in future seasons too. It will be pretty interesting to see how the creators navigate some intriguing elements that are in the manga in the animated format.
Who is returning to Monster Musume Season 2?
With the confirmation that Monster Musume Season 2 is happening, it isn’t surprising that the audience is excited to unfold the potential cast. It is safe to assume that the cast from the first season will make a return in the second one too.
Some of the artists to return are:
- Junji Majima
- Ari Ozawa
- Yû Kobayashi
- Natsuki Aikawa
- Bryson Baugus
- Molly Searcy
- Allison Sumrall
- Shelley Calene-Black
- Brittney Karbowski
Besides these, we might get additional characters and artists joining the cast in the next season.
Monster Musume Season 2 has indeed been a long time in the waiting. However, good things come to those who wait. Given how difficult it is to release animated shows, it isn’t surprising that we are still struggling to get an official release date for this show. But, we will keep you posted once we do.
