The Sinner is a compelling story because its dark side lies not in the “how” but in the “why” of what transpired. The actual suspense lies in determining what motivated Biel’s character to commit an act of violence in the first place. The show indeed has intriguing elements to keep the viewers hooked.

It is up to Robin to solve the unidentified disappearance of a twelve-year-old Tui, who was expecting a child. Her last known position was in the middle of an ice-covered lake.

Just based on the topic matter, the show is unsettling. While investigating Tui’s disappearance, Robin comes across an odd women’s camp run by a narcotics lord and is compelled to face up to her traumatic past. Moss gives an outstanding performance that enhances the suspenseful series directed by Jane Campion, the winner of an Oscar.

Based on the Stephen King novel of a similar title, The Outsider is another brilliant HBO program. The case appears to be very simple at first, but it gradually becomes clear that there is something quite odd, possibly something supernatural brewing beneath the initial appearance of the investigation. This series can captivate the audiences with its intricate plot and multifaceted cast of characters.

Similar to True Detective, The Killing focuses on two co-detectives with essentially distinct work approaches. However, The Killing differs from the HBO series in having a woman as the main lead. It is a crime procedural with a focus on characters.

The first season focusses on investigating a local girl’s murder, which turns out to be a complicated political plot. The criminal drama is dark and somber, and it’s not always enjoyable to watch. However, as they delve more into this sinister world, viewers are drawn in by these characters’ suffering, just like they are with True Detective.
