Juice Newton was born on 18 February 1952, in Lakehurst, New Jersey. Her father worked as a Navy officer, and her mother was a homemaker. As a child, she developed a love for music and started learning guitar. She received her first guitar on her 13th birthday, which was gifted by her mother.
For education, she attended First Colonial High School. After that, she joined Foothill College, where she became more serious about her music. During her time in college, she started performing at local coffeehouses to gain experience.

Newton started her music career in the early 1970s when she formed a band called Juice Newton & Silver Spur along with guitarist Otha Young. The band was signed by RCA Records and released a few albums.
