Early Life
Born on 27th November 1942, Jimi Hendrix spent the majority of his childhood in Seattle, Washington, where he was raised with his other siblings by his parents, Al Hendrix and Lucille.
His father was in the US Army, stationed in Alabama, but after returning home, he struggled to find a stable job and was also an alcoholic, which often caused fights at home.
Jimi and his brother Leon were moved in and out of foster care while their other siblings were adopted, and after he turned nine, his parents divorced, leaving him under his father’s custody. He attended Washington Junior High before joining Garfield High School, where he completed his graduation and started practicing guitar.

Jimi was a part of a group of venues that supported Black musicians and also played as a backup guitarist for big names like Jackie Wilson, Sam Cooke, and Ike & Tina Turner before signing his first record deal and joining Curtis Knight and the Squires. He moved to Greenwich Village, New York, and formed his band, Jimmy James and the Blue Flames.

Jimi rose to fame in 1966 when he met Chas Chandler, a former member of the band The Animals, who wanted to manage him and helped him form a new band, the Jimi Hendrix Experience.
The band quickly became a hit in the UK as three of their songs ranked on the UK charts for 33 weeks and reached the no.5 spot on the Billboard 200 in the U.S, a major achievement for the band.
