YouTube Users Face Outage Following Facebook and Instagram Downtime

On Tuesday, users of YouTube, a widely-used video streaming platform, reported issues with the site not functioning properly. Many encountered errors when attempting to open the YouTube homepage, with reports peaking around 9 PM as noted by Downdetector.com.

Downdetector.com received more than 3824 reports from users regarding YouTube downtime during the peak period. Reports indicate that users are encountering problems such as error messages appearing while attempting to access content and videos failing to load correctly.

This incident follows closely after Meta Platforms’ Instagram and Facebook experienced widespread downtime in India as well as other countries.

According to Downdetector.com, tens of thousands of users reported issues with Facebook and Instagram. Downdetector.com collects outage reports from users as well as other sources.

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, during the downtime, shared a humorous post on X. He started that their servers are fine and working. He also uploaded a picture featuring three penguins representing Threads, Instagram, and Facebook, with a user speculating whether this was a trial run for the 2024 US Presidential Polls.

Users on social media platforms shared their frustrations with the widespread outages, with one user asking if there was a global network or satellite problem, and another experiencing router issues and slow-loading emails throughout the day.

Additionally, Meta’s status dashboard showed that the application programming interface for WhatsApp Business was also facing difficulties, with over 200 reports of downtime on Downdetector.

Andy Stone, a spokesperson for Meta acknowledged the issues by saying that they are aware of the problem and trying to resolve it.

On X, Netblocks, an internet monitoring firm based in London, announced that four Meta platforms – Threads, Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram were currently facing downtime related to login sessions across multiple countries.

The firm, known for its advocacy for internet freedom, clarified that despite these outages, there were no evidence of country-level filtering or internet disruptions typically enforced by governments.

The worldwide outage became a trending topic online, with countless users voicing their frustration of being logged out from Meta-owned social media sites, highlighting the widespread impact of these technical difficulties.
