As per her social media records, Sarah Ikumu was born on 23rd March 2001 in Milton Kenyes, Buckinghamshire, England to Kenyan parents, who migrated from Kenya. Her father, Alex Gatogo, is a pastor and a truck driver, and her mother, Sarah, works as a caregiver. Though Sarah was born in England, her family moved back to Kenya when she was a child for a couple of years. Nothing about her siblings is available, even if she has one.
When she was in Kenya, she went to Riara Primary School in Imara Daima, Nairobi. Her career took off when she appeared in “Britain’s Got Talent” in 2017, when she was about 15 years old, and not only the judges, but even the audience loved her. She got the Golden Buzzer from Simon Cowell, making her reach the finals with her performance of “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going,” “Purple Rain,” and “Rise Up.” She reached till semi-finals before getting eliminated, but it didn’t affect her popularity.
She released her debut single “Save You” in 2019, followed with “Waiting” in 2021. In the next few years, she continued to release singles where she displayed her outstanding singing talent and released “Creep” in 2022, “Dream Again” in 2023, in which she collaborated with Hamilton Hardin, “Jungle Diva” with Pola & Bryson & Goddard” in 2023, and “Go Back” in 2024.
She collaborated with producer S.A.M. in 2022 to recreate “Spotlight” by Jennifer Hudson. A major breakthrough came when she became the lead singer of “Dream Again,” the anthem of “Dream Exchange,” which she performed live at Glastonbury Festival. As of now, she is working on several upcoming projects, but nothing is confirmed, but she does go live with her singing on her social media accounts.
Unlike the majority, Sarah Ikumu shot to fame immediately after entering “Britain’s Got Talent” in 2017, when she left a mark with her heavenly performance of “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” and won the Golden Buzzer from Simon Cowell.
