Princess Mako was born on 23rd October 1991, at the Imperial Household Agency Hospital in Tokyo. She is the eldest daughter of Crown Princess Kiko and Crown Prince Fumihito, and the granddaughter of Emperor Akihito. She was raised alongside her younger siblings, Prince Hisahito and Princess Kako.
Her early education began at Gakushuin School. Later, she continued her studies at the University College, Dublin and completed her graduation in English. Following that earned a bachelor’s degree in Art and Cultural Heritage from the International Christian University. Later she enrolled at University of Edinburgh to complete a degree in art history. Then, she obtained a master’s degree in Art Museum and Gallery Studies from the University of Leicester.
After completing her education, Princess Mako took on official duties as a member of the Imperial Family. She represented Japan on various cultural and diplomatic missions’ abroad and gained attention for her grace and strength.
Despite her royal status, Mako chose to work like any ordinary person. She served as a researcher at the University Museum of the University of Tokyo and later worked for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
Although Mako was always in the public eye, she gained global fame because of her relationship with Kei Komuro. In 2017, the couple announced their engagement, which sparked both public interest and controversy. The news soon became a topic of national and international discussion.
