Early Life
Davies was born on 2nd November 2000 in the Buduburam refugee camp in Ghana and was named Alphonso Boyle Davies. His Liberian parents, Debeah and Victoria Davies, fled and took shelter in the camp after running away from the Second Liberian Civil War in the early 2000s. Davies grew up in the same camp for about 5 years of age and struggled with his family for basic needs like food and water. In 2005, the entire family shifted to Canada and eventually made Edmonton, Alberta, their home. His parent worked hard and low-paid jobs, and Davies looked after his siblings.
He went to Mother Teresa Elementary School for his primary education in Edmonton in the early 2000s, and later was admitted to St. Nicholas Catholic Junior High. Davies’ career began in 2015 when he joined the Vancouver Whitecaps FC Residency Program, when he was 14 years old. He moved to Vancouver from Edmonton and played for Whitecaps FC 2 in the USL for 2015-2016, and made his debut and scored twice in 11 appearances. On 15th May, 2016, he became the youngest goalscorer in the history of USL, making a goal against LA Galaxy II. When he was 15 years old, he signed with the Vancouver Whitecaps MLS first team.
During 2016 to 2017, he appeared in 65 MLS matches and scored 8 goals. In 2017, he got Canadian citizenship and debuted with Canada National Team and became the youngest ever senior player if the team. The same year, he scored twice against French Guiana at the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup and became Canada’s youngest scorer.
In 2018, he was named an MLS All-Star 2018, for scoring several individual goals, and also won Player of the Year as well as Goal of the Year awards. His exceptional playing skills made the Bundesliga constantly select him, and in 2020, he was selected for FIFA FIFPro World 11.
In March 2023, he made his 100th appearance with the Bundesliga for Bayern and became the youngest non-German to achieve this. The same year, he returned to the CONCACAF Nations League Finals and scored against Panama in the semi-finals and in 2024, he became the captain for the team for the first time and officially became the team captain for Copa America 2024.
For club level, he played for Bayern and the Bundesliga titles even for 2024-2025. In 2024, he scored his first Champions League Goal in the semi-final against Real Madrid. As of now, Davies has renewed the contract with Bayern Munich till 2030.
