YouTube Premium Expands Its Services To 10 Additional Countries

YouTube Premium, the paid subscription service offered by the popular video-streaming platform has broadened its global presence to ten additional countries. Google, the parent company of YouTube has announced this expansion, marking a significant milestone in the platform’s growth.

Previously accessible in numerous regions, YouTube Premium’s availability has now been extended to include a total of 100 countries worldwide. This decision underlines Google’s commitment to offering its premium services to a wider audience. Alongside this expansion, Google has introduced student plans in all newly added countries, providing an affordable option for students to access premium content.

This announcement follows YouTube Premium’s recent achievement of surpassing 100 million subscribers in 2024. This shows the platform’s popularity level and people’s interest in using it as a major source of video content.

The expansion was brought to light by Android Police, which discovered updates to Google’s support page indicating the inclusion of ten new countries in YouTube Premium’s service coverage. These countries include Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Morocco, Libya, Tanzania, Uganda, Réunion, Zimbabwe, and Yemen. While the premium service is now available in 100 countries, it is temporarily disabled in Russia.

According to reports, users in the newly added countries will have access to YouTube Premium’s student and family plans, along with the individual subscription option. 

The student plan is tailored for full-time students at higher education institutions, with verification conducted annually by a third-party service. It comes at a slightly lower price than the other subscription plans. This is done to benefit students who are unable to afford the full price of the other subscription plans.

In order to be eligible for student pricing on YouTube Premium, enrolment in a higher education institution or one that offers YouTube student memberships is required. The institution must be approved by SheerID, a verification service. Additionally, students must undergo verification through SheerID to confirm their student status.

The family subscription, on the other hand, allows up to five family members aged 13 or older to enjoy the benefits of a single subscription. This subscription plan comes at a slightly higher rate than the individual plan.

YouTube Premium offers users an array of features, including offline video downloads, ad-free viewing, bundled access to YouTube Music, and background playback through picture-in-picture mode.

This expansion reflects Google’s ongoing efforts to enhance user experience and broaden its service offerings on the YouTube platform.
