Born somewhere in 1969 in Denmark, Tom Hougaard spent his young and teen years there and moved to abroad when he was an adult. However, details about his exact birthdate, place, parents, and siblings are not available anywhere and till date, he has preferred not to talk about them as well. As per some sources, he moved to the United Kingdom in 1992, when he was about 23 years old.
He pursued education in finance and economics and even attended universities in Birmingham and Wales. Some reports even suggest that he holds a degree in BSc and MSc. Post completing his education somewhere in the mid to late 1990s, Hougaard immediately started his professional career.
After completing his degree in economics and finance in the UK, he started his professional career and joined JPMorgan Chase in London. He first picked up non-trading roles but was highly interested in the stock market and even started his personal trading during the same time. By the early 2000s, after spending nearly 3 years in JPMorgan, Hougaard left the job and joined trading. He joined City Index, a renowned retail brokerage in London and started with spread texting and contracts for difference and eventually climbed to the position of Chief Market Strategist.
He spent about a decade in the company, serving till 2009, and delivered more than a thousand seminars and TV interviews. He became famous for his different approach, his calls, and market turning points like key highs and lows in 2002, 2003, and 2009. During this period, he even got the title of “Trader Tom” and became more of a strategist and commentator than just a trader.
In 2009, Hougaard started trading full-time on his own after leaving the company as his employer faced severe loss and the entire team was fired from the job. He started with live trading with a partner, where he taught the strategies of trading and calling trades in real time. It went for months, and he got wins. During 2010, along with his day trading, he also started running workshops and courses, establishing a trading style where the focus was on index futures, price action and high-conviction intraday positions.
Around the same time, he started to understand the psychology of trading and put great focus on it. From 2020, he started expanding his presence and knowledge further through social media like Telegram and YouTube and started live-streaming the trading sessions. In 2022, he published his book, “Best Loser Wins”, which was based on his ideas, emotional turmoil, risks, and mindset related to trading, and the book became very famous amongst budding traders.
At present, he continues with his trading journey, precisely intraday trading, while giving workshops and seminars, and helping young minds to understand trading and unlocking its success.
His shot to fame moment came when he expanded his presence on social media and started live-streaming sessions on YouTube with viewers. His instant call on trading made him popular amongst the young traders.
