But childhood was a struggle for him as he suffered from health challenges and frequent illness. Nothing about his sibling is available.

He went to St. Paul’s School in Concord, New Hampshire in 1992 and studied there till 1995. While studying in Princeton, he went to Japan and learnt fluent Japanese and wrote a thesis on “Political Risk and Entrepreneurship in China.”

Evolution of Career

Immediately after completing his education at Princeton, he took a job in sales at a company called TrueSAN Networks in Silicon Valley, and was frustrated with the 9-to-5 job life. He ran this company remotely and applied automation techniques and productivity hacks that later would become the core of his work module and beliefs.

In 2007, Ferriss published his very first book, “The 4-Hour Workweek,” which became an instant hit, making him a #1 New York Times Bestseller. Just 2 years later, another book came as a follow-up to these 4-hour series, “The 4-Hour Chef,” but received criticism because of was a cookbook in the name of a learning guide. The book, however, went on becoming a best-seller, but many offline bookstores boycotted it.

In 2013 to 2014, Ferriss put his focus on angel investing and promoting startups, and he became one of the earliest investors of companies like Twitter, Evernote, Facebook, Uber, and Shopify, and established himself as a major angel investor. At the same time, he also started with media production and started a show called “The Tim Ferriss Experiment,” which was aired on HLN and later made available on iTunes and other platforms.

In 2014, Ferriss launched a podcast show, “The Tim Ferriss Show,” where he interviewed people from diverse fields like entertainment, sports, and business, and it soon became one of the most downloaded in the world, trending on the top charts like Spotify and Apple, and has garnered 900 million downloads as of present. In 2016, he published another book, “Tools of Titans,” a book that has insights from his podcasts shared by the guests, followed with “Tribe of Mentors” in 2017.

Ferriss started to focus on and advocate for mental health from 2018 and emphasized the use of psychedelics for therapeutic purposes. He has been donating millions to research institutes like Imperial College London and Johns Hopkins University to fund the studies of Psilocybin to treat PTSD, depression, and anxiety. As of 2025, he is working on his book, “THE NO BOOK,” while continuing his podcast and angel investing.
