Samsung introduced the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 5 5G earlier this year, boasting military-grade durability (MIL-STD-810H) and IP68-certified build. The device was launched alongside the Galaxy XCover 7 in January.
Following its release, a Samsung executive announced that the enterprise version of the Galaxy Tab Active 5 5G will be supported with Android OS updates and security patches for eight years. Meanwhile, the standard version of the tablet will receive only four major OS updates and security patches for five years.
According to a LinkedIn post by a Samsung executive based in the Netherlands, the Enterprise Edition of the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 5 is slated to receive Android OS updates as well as security patches for eight years.
This commitment ensures the tablet’s software remains up-to-date until 2032, encompassing new features introduced up to Android 22. In contrast, the standard version of the device will receive five years of security patches and four OS updates.
This particular move positions the Galaxy Tab Active 5 as the pioneer in Samsung’s tablet lineup to promise such an extended period of software updates. Samsung previously pledged seven years of security patches and Android updates for its latest Galaxy S24 series, aligning with Google’s similar seven-year support for the Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel 8.
Distinguishing features of the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 5 include its green-coloured Enterprise Edition, running on Android 14. It boasts an 8-inch WUXGA TFT display with a high refresh rate of up to 120Hz, protected by Gorilla Glass Victus. The device is powered by a 5nm octa-core SoC.
In terms of imaging capabilities, the Galaxy Tab Active 5 houses a 13-megapixel rear camera along with a 5-megapixel front camera. Furthermore, the device is equipped with a powerful 5,050mAh battery.
Its IP68 rating and MIL-STD-810H-certified build protect against various environmental hazards, including shocks, vibrations, drops, dust, and rain. The tablet has support for facial recognition for added security and convenience. It also includes a S Pen, which can be used for various purposes.
The extended eight-year Android upgrade plan will significantly enhance the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 5 Enterprise Edition. Users will benefit from continuous access to new features, security updates, and optimizations for the latest Android/One UI software over an extended period.
While details regarding the launch of the Galaxy Tab Active 5 Enterprise Edition remain undisclosed, expectations are high for a device equipped with major hardware and software capabilities, mirroring those of its standard counterpart.
