Born on 23rd July 1967 in Fairport, New York, a suburb located in Rochester, Hoffman was born to father Gordon Hoffman, who worked for Xerox Corporation, and his mother, Marilyn O’Connor, who was a lawyer and a judge of family court. His parents got divorced when he was 9 years old, and his mother single-handedly raised him and his siblings.
Since childhood, Hoffman developed an interest in Theatres, sports, precisely wrestling. While wrestling, he suffered a neck injury at the age of 14, and he left his interest in sports midway and focused more on his acting interest. His love for theatres grew with time and reached its prime when he attended a performance of “All My Sons” by Arthur Miller.
While he was attending Fairport High School, he pursued his love for acting and got into production. After graduating from there, he went to New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, from where he graduated in 1989 with a degree in Drama. The time he spent at NYU, his love for acting turned into a passion, and he explored method acting, which established a genre of his successful career.
After graduating, he briefly worked in an off-Broadway Theatre and customer service jobs, but his acting career started in 1991, with a small role in “Law and Order” and did some similar small acting jobs, but his main role came with “Scent of a Woman” in 1992 where he worked along with Al Pacino, and he earned some recognition.
Hoffman worked in several movies throughout the 1990s, and the list included “Boogie Night,” “The Big Lebowski,” “Magnolia,” and “Almost Famous.” His art of living his each character he portrayed made him famous, and he became the most-sought name for a supporting actor.
