The official network, NBC Premier confirmed that the show is most likely not making a comeback and is being canceled. While the show picked up pretty high ratings in the beginning few seasons, its rank eventually dropped to the bottom with the newer seasons. This was the primary reason why they had to cancel the show.
While the first season of the show debuted with 14+ million views, the last episode of the fifth season didn’t even have half of it. Even the declining episode count in the newer seasons ended up being the reason behind the show’s cancellation.
The fact that Season 5 would be New Amsterdam’s last season was confirmed and announced in the middle of the fourth season, leaving the fans shattered with the news.
If you have yet to watch New Amsterdam, let us give you a bit of background about the show. It follows the life of Dr. Max Goodwin, who is appointed the new medical director of one of the country’s oldest hospitals.
His aim after taking over the hospital is to break down the bureaucracy with his unique and funny antiques and ensure that his patients are getting the best quality care.
Despite the show garnering a lot of viewership in the first few seasons, things quickly went downhill when the show’s focus shifted more toward drama and less on the medical side of things.
