Born on 27th November, 1969 in Boston, Massachusetts, Myles was named Myles Richard Bass and had a life full of personal loss and musical discovery. His father, Richard Bass, died when he was about 4 years old, and his mother married again to Kenneth Kennedy, who was a Methodist Minister. Myles later took the surname of his step-father.
Post the second marriage, the entire family settled in Spokane, Washington, where he was raised along with his brother Brian Kennedy in a religious environment. From a very young age, Myles was exposed to music and a wide range of instruments, from jazz, soul, and classic rock. He was highly influenced by artists like Marvin Gaye and Led Zeppelin.
He went to Mead High School in Spokane in the 1990s for his formal education, where he participated in playing trumpet in the jazz band and started to learn guitar at the age of 15. He further went to Spokane Falls Community College in 1988, where he took up music theory and jazz guitar, which would shape his future.
Soon after completing his education, Myles began his professional career and joined the jazz-fusion band “Cosmic Dust” as a guitarist. In 1992, he co-founded “Citizen Swing,” and released 2 albums before disbanding it. In 1996, he made “The Mayfield Four,” a rock-band, and signed with Epic Records and released two albums, “Fallout” in 1998 and “Second Skin” in 2001. The band became popular and got a huge fan-following, but disbanded in 2002.
In 2003, a breakthrough came in his career when ex-members of Creed, Mark Tremonti, Brian Marshall, and Scott Phillips recruited Myles to form a band,” Alter Bridge.” The band released the debut album, “One Day Remains” in 2004, followed by a list of albums like “Blackbird” in 2007, “AB III” in 2010, “Fortress” in 2013, “The Last Hero” in 2016, “Walk the Sky” in 2019, and “Pawn & Kings” in 2022. His performance of “Blackbird” received huge praise for both his guitar solo and debut solo, earning the honor of being one of the greatest rock solos of all time.
Another great turn came in 2009 when a celebrated guitarist, Slash, invited Myles for collaboration, and he gave vocals for two tracks of the album titled “Slash” in 2019. His performance secured him a permanent position for the “Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirator” project. They released several albums like “Apocalyptic Love” in 2012, “World on Fire” in 2014, “Living the Dream” in 2018, and “4” in 2022.
Simultaneously, Myles was working in his solo career as well and released his debut solo album “Year of the Tiger” in 2018, which expressed his emotions for losing his father. The second album came out in 2021 and was named “The Ides of March,” which mixed rock and blues. Presently, Myles balances his roles between Alter Bridge and Slash while managing his solo projects.
The first milestone moment came when he was recruited by the ex-members of the Creed to form the band “Alter Bridge” and released a series of songs. His performance of “Blackbird” won him special recognition. Another important moment came when he was asked by Slash, a guitarist, to collaborate.
Not much information about Myles Kenndey’s personal life is available on public forums, but we do know that he is married to Selena Frank and the marriage took place in 2003. As of now, the couple doesn’t have any children.
