Amazon Prime Video’s latest spy show, Mr. & Mrs. Smith hit it big when it debuted in February. Fans who have watched it will know how intense the season 1 finale was, leaving viewers on a cliff-hanger.
Since the first season is already over, you might be wondering if there’s a Mr and Mrs Smith season 2 on the horizon. Well, the answer is yes! The show is renewed for another season which will continue the story.
For those who haven’t watched the first season yet, it tells the story of two spies who enter into an arranged marriage. It’s a fresh take on the 2005 action-comedy movie of the same name, which featured Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. However, the revamped version comes with some tweaks from the original.
Amazon gave the green light for Mr. & Mrs. Smith season 2 in early 2027. But we are yet to get an official release date.
Assuming the show is already under production, it might be released sometime in 2025. Right now, we cannot be certain about this information as nothing of that sort has been announced yet.
According to insiders, the main stars from season 1, Maya Erskine and Donald Glover, likely won’t be making a comeback for season 2. However, neither Amazon nor the actors have said anything yet.
If the rumours turn out true and Erskine and Glover decide not to return in Mr. & Mrs. Smith season 2, the series might switch to an anthology style. It could bring in a fresh couple to assume the roles of John and Jane Smith. However, if their characters do come back, Mr and Mrs Smith’s season 2 could continue the story where it left off in Season 1.
The majority of the finale depicts the couple chasing each other through the streets of NYC, trying to kill each other. With the help of a truth serum, they reconcile just in time to thwart the Other John and Jane Smith, who were hired to kill them.
John’s injury appears grave, and Jane prepares to confront the Other Jane. Just before the anticipated showdown, Jane discloses that she has only one bullet remaining. However, in the final scene, three gunshots were heard from the window. The fate of the Smiths remains uncertain — whether they survived or succeeded in killing the Other Jane.
According to reports, Maya Erskine and Donald Glover might not return in season 2. But we must wait till they announce it themselves. As far as the other actors are concerned, we can expect the following members:
