Leo Sayer was born on 21st May 1948, in Shoreham-by-Sea, Sussex, England, where he grew up with his two siblings. His parents were Theresa Nolan and Thomas E.G. Sayer. According to online sources, his mother was from Northern Ireland, while his father was English.
Growing up, Leo developed an interest in drawing and music. He attended St Peter’s Catholic School and then transferred to Blessed Robert Southwell. After that, he joined West Sussex College of Art and Design to study commercial art and graphic design.
Leo’s journey into music began in the 1970s when he met musician and songwriter David Courtney. Together, they worked on demos, which caught the attention of manager Adam Faith, a former pop star. With Faith’s help, Leo began writing and performing songs professionally.
Leo released his debut single, “Why Is Everybody Going Home,” in 1973. But it didn’t do very well. It was his second single, “The Show Must Go On,” that gained him widespread recognition.

After his divorce, he had a few relationships, including one with Donatella Piccinetti. The two separated in 2007 but reunited again in 2023, the year they got married.
