In 2001, in a fictional place called Nirmal Pradesh, Deepak, a farmer, mistakenly takes the wrong bride, Pushpa, off a train, leaving his real wife, Phool Kumari, behind. Back home, Pushpa pretends to be someone else while Phool, stuck at a station, gets help from Manju Maai, who runs a tea stall.
Deepak, realizing his error, seeks help from Sub-Inspector Shyam Manohar to find Phool. Manohar suspects Pushpa of theft but finds out her real name is Jaya. Jaya reveals she was forced into marriage and dreams of studying farming in Dehradun, away from her abusive husband, Pradeep.
Pradeep, furious, confronts Jaya at the police station. Manohar intervenes, warning Pradeep against further abuse. Meanwhile, Jaya tries to find Phool, putting up posters. Eventually, Phool returns, reuniting with Deepak. Jaya then leaves for Dehradun to pursue her education, free from Pradeep’s control.
After impressing audiences in theatres, Laapataa Ladies is now available on Netflix. It arrived on the platform just a month and a half after its release on 26th April.
