Born on 14th November 1964 in Wallingford, Berkshire, England, Katty Kay was named Katherine Katty Kay and was raised in Blewbury. His father was a British diplomat, and her mother was a journalist, a possible influence on her. Throughout her childhood, she travelled to many countries, mainly in the Middle East, where his father was posted. She also has 2 brothers and 1 sister.

Soon after graduating, Katty Kay joined as a banker at the Bank of England but dropped out because she didn’t feel the job was a right fit for her. She moved to Zimbabwe and joined a humanitarian aid agency. There she met a friend, Matt Frei, and he encouraged her to take up journalism as a career. She took this seriously and joined the BBC as a correspondent for World Service Radio in Zimbabwe in 1990.
She returned to London after 2 years but was soon posted to Tokyo for BBC television in 1992. She was again posted in Washington DC, but in 2002, she became a freelance journalist in the BBC. During her freelancing career, she even worked for the Times Bureau as a reporter.
She also co-hosted BBC World Bulletins with Mike Embley starting from 2004, and the show was aired on about 230 broadcast stations in the USA. She then became the correspondent for the program called BBC World New America. She constantly appears on television on many different shows like Real Time with Bill Maher (HBO), Meet the Press (NBC), and Morning Joe.
Along with her successful journalism career, she has also co-authored some renowned books like “The Confidence Code: Science and Art of Self-Confidence” and “Womenomics.”
