Dead Boy Detectives Season 1 – Everything We Know So Far

Netflix has given us a sneak peek into its upcoming series, Dead Boy Detectives, based on the Vertigo comics by Matt Wagner and Neil Gaiman. 

The show features Jayden Revri and George Rexstrew in the roles of Charles Rowland and Edwin Payne, two close friends who also happen to be ghosts. Together, they use their spectral abilities to solve supernatural mysteries in the human world.

When Is Dead Boy Detectives Season 1 Releasing?

Dead Boy Detectives season 1 release date is out, and it’s hitting Netflix on April 25th! The wait is almost over, and all eight episodes will be available for your binge-watching pleasure as soon as it drops.

Just so you know this series was originally slated for release on HBO Max, but Netflix swooped in and snagged it for its platform. 

Rumours about the series started circulating in 2021, and it wasn’t long before Netflix officially announced its acquisition. Neil Gaiman himself confirmed last April that the show would indeed be set in the Sandman universe.

Production kicked off with the filming of the pilot episode in December 2021 and January 2022, followed by the full series shoot from November 2022 to April 2023.

What Can We Expect From Dead Boy Detectives Season 1?

As far as it is known the Dead Boy Detectives will be joining the Sandman universe on Netflix, which is where the characters first appeared in Gaiman’s Sandman comics back in the early 1990s. 

However, the journey to this point has been quite an adventure. Originally, the series was developed for Max as part of the streamer’s DC Universe plans. But things took a turn when Warner Bros. Discovery decided to overhaul the DC universe under the guidance of Peter Safran and James Gunn.

According to the official synopsis provided by Netflix, Dead Boy Detectives introduces viewers to Edwin Payne and Charles Rowland, the dynamic duo behind the Dead Boy Detectives agency.

Despite being teenagers from different eras, Charles and Edwin form an inseparable bond in the afterlife. As best friends and ghosts, they tackle mysteries with a combination of brains and brawn. Their loyalty knows no bounds, leading them to brave perilous encounters with wicked witches, and even Death herself, all in the name of sticking together.
