Coco Gauff through to second round at Ostrava

Coco Gauff defeated Czech doubles champion Katerina Siniakova and occupied a second-round spot at the Ostrava Open WTA tournament. The game between the two went down on Tuesday.

Coco Gauff is an American tennis sensation who is currently playing at the Ostrava Open 2020 in the Czech Republic. She is just 16 and has won against the star player, Katerina Siniakova.

In the first set, both the players missed serving three times. But later, the 16-year-old player took charge and gained the seventh break.

In the second set, the game went on till the tenth game, when Gauff broke to take the match 7-5, 6-4.

Although Gauff squandered the first three match points, Katerina hit the net on the fourth to bow out.

Gauff had a little chat with the Czech Television where she said, that today’s game was tough as she was not giving her 100%. The arena was empty because of the ongoing pandemic situation.

She also said that she was just trying to fight through the match. Gauff previously faced Jana Cepelova of Slovakia and defeated her. She even beat Romania’s Irina Camelia Begu in the qualifying matches.

Gauff will now play against the Belarusian tennis player, Aryna Sabalenka, in the second round of the tournament. Just so you know she had already won against her once in Lexington two months ago.

She also had to put in her best shot to win in the qualifying rounds to reach here. But this was indeed a tough time for her as she lost in the French Open Italian Open.

But Gauff is not the one to give up. She is still hopeful.

The change of surface may bring her some good news. The hard courts here are the same as the one at Linz last year. Gauff procured her first when she was just 15 years at Linz.

Although she won the match, she was not happy about it. In the post-match conference, she said, that she couldn’t give her best but it was not her worst performance either. She believes that her performance was just mediocre.

She also said that she didn’t have a great start. She got broken at love in her first match. But she kept fighting and stayed there. She also said that she didn’t get the chance to practice at Center Court before her main match.
