Chatri Sityodtong was born in 1971, in Thailand, to his Japanese mother and Thai father. Developing an interest in martial arts, he started training in Muay Thai at a young age.

Later, he completed his MBA at Harvard Business School. To support his studies at Harvard, he worked as a food delivery boy and also taught Muay Thai. Chatri started his career in the finance industry. He worked as an investment analyst and trader at top financial firms, including Fidelity Investments and Bain & Company.
