When his father took time off due to surgery, he stepped in to help with the family racing business. He started racing with the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) and later joined the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA), where he found great success.
In 2001, Massel tried his luck in the television as he began broadcasting career covering IHRA events for Speed Channel and TNN. Later, he moved on to cover NHRA events on ESPN2. Today, he’s widely known as one of the hosts of Garage Squad, a show that brings old cars back to life.
