Early Life

Born on 7th December, 1986 in Grant, Florida, USA, he was named William John Horschel. Horschel was born in a blue-collar family, and his father, Billy Horschel Sr., worked as a foreman in a local construction company, and his mother, Kathy Horschel. He also has two younger brothers, Chris and Brian, and the family after a few years eventually moved to Palm Bay, Florida.

For his education, he went to Bayside High School in Palm Bay, Florida, in the early 2000s, and graduated from high school around 2004-2005. At a young age, he was inclined towards different sports, including golf, and he received an athletic scholarship for college from the University of Florida in 2006. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sport Management in 2009. While in college, he played for the Florida Gators men’s golf team and became a four-time All-American and was named SEC Player of the Year in 2007 and 2008.

Evolution of Career

As soon as he was graduated in 2009, he started his professional career the very same year, and by December 2009, he got his PGA Tour card by qualifying for the 2010 season. However, things got bad, and he suffered a wrist injury in 2010, and he could only play in four PGA Tour events, and didn’t secure a cut. The same year, he went back through Q-School to regain his Tour card, which he did.

In 2011, Horschel made a cut at the Mayakoba Golf Classic, which was his first cut made in eleven PGA Tour and by the end of the tour, he was at 140th on the money list. The next year, in 2012, he made a strong comeback and gave some great individual performances and finished third at the True South Classic, but missed the cut to secure his PGA Tour card for the next season and was in 147th place on the money list.

To earn a full PGA Tour membership in 2013, he went through several attempts, but once he gained it, he did prove his credibility and on 28th April 2013, he captured his first PGA Tour win at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans and dominated a final-round 64. In 2014, he proved his potential and secured wins for multiple high-profile tournaments, from the BMW Championship and The Tour Championship, which led him to the FedEx Cup. For the next few years, he got more wins in the PGA Tour, including the AT&T Byron Nelson in 2017.

In 2018, he secured the win at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans again. After maintaining silence for a couple of years, he returned in 2021 and won the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play, and later in the same year, he won the BMW PGA Championship. The next win came in 2022 at the Memorial Tournament. In April 2024, Horschel won the Corales Punctacana Championship, and in the same year in September, he got the title of the first American golfer to win the BMW PGA Championship twice by defeating Rory Mcllroy in a playoff.

In 2025, he underwent hip surgery and missed multiple major tournaments, but assured that make a comeback soon.

Shot to Fame

Though he had been professionally playing Golf since 2009, he shot to fame with the win at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans in 2013.
