Her family is involved in farming as her father, Barry Cornish, was a farmer and her mother, Shelley Cornish, was a homemaker. She is the second child among the 5 siblings. The children were raised in a family-oriented environment, and she was inclined towards the arts from a young age.

For her education, she went to a Catholic School in her hometown only and later attended Hunter Valley Grammar School. While growing up, she wanted to become a veterinarian, but her inclination and discovery of performing arts made her choose modelling as a career when she was only 13 years old. Abbie’s professional career started when she was 13 years old and won the Dolly Magazine competition, a modelling competition held in 1995. Next, she got cast in a TV series “Wildside” in 1997, and her ground-breaking performance at such a small age led her to win the “Australian Film Institute Young Actor’s Award.” Later, she transitioned from modelling to a full-time acting career.

In 2001, she was cast in “Outsiders” and “Marking Time” in 2003, which made her a known name in the film industry. Her major turning point came when he starred in a film “Somersault” in 2004, which went on to becoming a critically acclaimed movie and got her attention from Hollywood. She even went on winning many awards like which led her to be cast in her first Hollywood movie opposite to famous actor Heath Ledger, “Candy” in 2006, and in 2007, she was seen in “Elizabeth: The Golden Age” opposite Cate Blanchett.

The fame also led her to be signed in many successful US dramas like “Stop Loss” and “Bright Star.” The latter won her huge appreciation and acclamation. She continued showcasing her talent and was cast in mainstream movies like “Limitless,” “Sucker Punch,” “Seven Psychopaths,” and “Robocop.”

While working on films, she also took up roles in television series like “Jack Ryan” that ran from 2019 to 2023. Her career as a rapper is also interesting as she has a rap name MC Dusk, under which she has been writing and making raps since her teenage.  Some of her songs are “Evolve” and “Way Back Home.”
