NGC, Sony Present Becoming a King on CineAlta 4K

For the first time, a National Geographic Channel documentary is showcased on Sony’s CineAlta 4K™ digital projector to a cinema audience to illustrate the stunning quality of a high definition (HD) documentary.

Becoming A King, a one-hour National Geographic Channel exclusive that chronicles the majestic grandeur and tradition behind the coronation of Malaysia’s thirteenth King, Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Al-Wathiqu Billah Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Mahmud Al-Muktafi Billal Shah.

This documentary is a landmark HD production of National Geographic Channels International, the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage of Malaysia, the National Film Development Corporation of Malaysia and in Association with Astro.

“We are proud to be able to showcase our landmark documentary, Becoming a King in Sony’s state of the art CineAlta4 digital projector. This documentary, the result of a pioneer collaboration between NGCI and FINAS, is made by Malaysians for a global audience and we are glad to have Sony support for this screening”, said Basil Chua, Marketing Director of National Geographic Channel Asia.

Sony's CineAlta 4K™ digital projector's 4K resolution derives from its 4096 x 2160 pixel matrix, approximately 8.8 million pixels, which is more than four times the pixels of the best HDTV specifications (1920 x 1080). Designed to conform with the DCI (Digital Cinema Initiatives) specification requirements, Sony's CineAlta 4K™ digital projector offers uncompromising picture performance and functionality – shows the brilliant, crisp and clear images even during fast and dynamic action sequence. Complementing the projector’s pixel resolution is a high contrast ratio for deep blacks, outstanding picture uniformity and superb signal processing.

“Our collaboration with National Geographic Channel further advances our vision of ‘HD for all’,” says Mr Kozo Tetsuya, Division Managing Director of the Broadcast and Professional Pacific Asia Company, a division of the Sony Corporation of Hong Kong Limited.  “Showcasing HD documentaries on our projectors helped put the premiere on the cutting edge of technology and enhanced the viewing experience for the guests. We are also excited in premiering this digital cinematic experience in Malaysia in this grand occasion.”

In conjunction with Malaysia ’s 50th National Day celebration, Becoming a King will premiere exclusively on National Geographic Channel (Astro Channel 52) on Monday, 27 August 2007 at 10.00 pm followed by repeats on Friday, 31 August 2007 at 10.00 pm and Saturday, 1 September 2007 at 12.00 pm.
